Portland Nature of the Village Family Camp

Grandma and Grandpa

Remake the village

How does a village live, breathe and work? Come participate in an open space village, where you tell your story and take the actions that the village needs to thrive. At the Nature of the Village you immediately feel like you have stepped into another world: one where the value of traditional skills are learned and celebrated and where people care for one another like a family.

For families

This Nature of the Village: Family Camp is made for families. With facilitation from some of the best TrackersNW youth and adult instructors, the community of the camp steers the course of the program. It could be be tracking local wildlife, learning about bird language and behavior, making bows and arrows, building shelters, tending to chickens and livestock, preparing fall and winter gardens, canning and preserving for the pantry, shooting at the archery range or even building a boat. Anything is possible and the instructors of Trackers are your guides in an epic world of skills and land for wonder.

Music, tall tales and celebration

Every night is a celebration for the work of the day. Feast, festival and campfire continue the creation of culture for everyone at the camp. We tell stories, play music and may even be moved to put on theater performance or two.

The cabin

Located only 9 miles outside of Sandy, Oregon, The Nature of the Village Family Camp takes place at the Trackers Cabin. On 3 acres of land set for permaculture design and homesteading and adjacent to Audubon Society of Portland's 200 acre wildlife refuge we have room to wander the wilderness and work on homesteading projects.

When does it start Orientations to the land take place every 2 hours starting at noon on Monday. Families can take this time to set up their individual tents. Monday night the week begins with a celebratory potluck.
