What We Teach
This class teaches the foundations of blacksmithing. It covers the principles of tool use, shop safety, craftsmanship, proper form, art, and design. Blacksmithing basics is also an excellent primer to begin developing longer-term blacksmithing and metalcraft skills while working with our expert Blacksmiths.
Choose You Session
You can take Blacksmithing Basics as a 1-day weekend class or a 4-evening series. There is no prerequisite. See below for session options.
- 1-day class (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM) Our single day 7-hour adult class.
- 4-weeks, 1 evening per week (6:00 PM - 7:45 PM) Our 4-evening adult class
- 1-day class (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM) Family Forge Registration includes 1 adult + 1 youth (Grade 5 & up) sharing an anvil.
Youth must be accompanied adults.
Location
This class takes place at our private indoor blacksmithing shop in SE Portland. This state-of-the-art facility is one of the largest teaching blacksmithing shops in Oregon. All materials, forge time, and instruction is provided.
