Rovers Forest Preschool fosters curiosity, confidence, and connection. Our expert Trackers Guides mentor young adventurers (Ages 4-5) as they explore the outdoors in a small, supportive group. Kids embark on exciting adventures, developing independence, teamwork, and essential outdoor skills.

Our Educational Philosophy

Our programs supports early learners through immersive, hands-on experiences in nature. Our approach nurtures social-emotional growth, creativity, and a deep bond with the natural world.

  • Friends & Community: Kids learn and grow in small teams, building friendships and social confidence. Through shared adventure, they develop resilience and teamwork.
  • Exploration & Discovery: Each day is an outdoor journey—tracking wildlife, playing nature-based games, and experiencing seasonal changes firsthand.
  • Comfort in Nature: Our trained drivers transport kids to nearby greenspaces, where they explore forests, fields, and waterways, building confidence in outdoor settings.
  • Awareness & Wonder: Tracking and nature encourages mindfulness and curiosity, helping kids engage their senses and connect deeply with the world around them.

Outdoor Adventures & Skills

Adventuring outdoors means learning with the seasons. Each term, our curriculum draws from the Four Guilds, immersing kids in nature-based skills. The Rangers Guild trains in archery and forest craft. The Mariners Guild explores waterways and goes fishing. The Wilders Guild studies plants and folk craft. The Artisans Guild brings stories to life through creative arts and hands-on projects.

Fall Term Venture into the forest and develop core Ranger skills like archery, forest craft, and outdoor survival. Learn to build shelters, create woodcrafts, and navigate the wilderness. Early in the season, head out with the Mariners for fishing adventures and more.

Winter Term As the days grow cooler, spend time in our Artisans Studios crafting with natural materials—wood, clay, and more. On brighter days, return outdoors to practice forest stealth games, track wildlife, and engage in immersive nature play.

Spring Term With nature awakening, forage for wild edible plants with the Wilders. Explore local waterways, fishing with the Mariners. Continue Ranger training with archery, outdoor skills, and exciting stealth games while observing the return of spring birds.

Readiness for Outdoor Preschool

To ensure a safe and supportive experience for every student, children need to meet the following readiness requirements before joining Rovers Outdoor Preschool:

  • Potty Independent: For their well-being and comfort, children must be fully potty trained and able to use the restroom and nature potty with minimal assistance.
  • Following Directions: Kids need to consistently listen to and follow simple instructions from Guides, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Cooperative Transitions: For education and teamwork, children should be able to transition smoothly and positively between activities, including bus time.
  • Dressed for the Outdoors: Our preschoolers adventure in all weather—rain or shine. Families must ensure their child arrives dressed appropriately for the day's conditions.

We are committed to helping families prepare for a great outdoor experience! Before the start of the program, we send materials and guidance on dressing for the weather, including layering techniques, recommended gear, and tips for keeping kids warm, dry, and comfortable throughout their adventures.
