As a Coordinator you act as a mentor for youth and a manager for teaching Guides. You make our proams happen. One day you may embark on a wilderness survival trek, fish, kayak, rock climb, or co-create a story adventure with secret agents, wizards, or elves. You collaborate with families and Trackers leadership to deliver the highest quality experience for campers. A Trackers Guide Team has four Coordinator roles, you will be assigned one:
- Safety Coordinator: Oversee safety of staff & students.
- Operations Coordinator: Oversee schedules & program logistics.
- Stewardship Coordinator: Oversee gear & site stewardship.
- Senior Coordinator: Oversee team development & curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor groups of young Trackers while adventuring outdoors.
- Supervise & manage Guide staff.
- Provide fun, engaging & safe experiences.
- Communicate with parents about needs, accomplishments & expectations.
- Model & maintain proper gear care & tidiness.
- Give performance evaluations to Guide staff you manage.
- Communicate & document safety & behavior incidents.
- Keep & safeguard confidential program & student information.
- Teach specialty programs based on skills & experience:
- Stealth & camouflage, field archery & bow making, bushcraft & wilderness survival
- Fishing & crawfishing, boating & water safety, foraging & outdoor cooking
- Farming & folk craft, wild plants & gardening, homesteading & forestry
- Martial arts & paintball, hands-on crafts & role-playing games, tactics & strategy
- Leadership and service, Stoicism of the Hellenistic philosophical tradition
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Working with Trackers demands a unique blend of physical prowess, mental agility, specialized skills, and a passion for youth education in dynamic environments.
- 1+ years (or 3 seasons) experience in outdoor education or 2+ years proven work experience in a high intensity workplace.
- Potential experience with skills relevant to Trackers programs.
- Can exercise independent judgment that reflects Trackers policies and protocols.
- Can coordinate, adapt & plan for complex logistics, and be flexible in working with challenges.
- Possess grit, becoming more calm, creative, and proactive when challenged.
- Can stand, bend, squat, climb, lift (up to 50 lbs), hike on and off trail (up to 5 miles) per day.
- Trackers Earth completes pre-employment criminal background & references checks.
Certifications
Coordinators need the following certifications (or able to complete before starting):
- CPR/First Aid/Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto-Injector
- Food Handlers
- (ages 18+) Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect (OR & WA)
- State fishing license if guiding a program that includes fishing
- Earn more! Optional Pay Add-on Class C CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with passenger endorsement - Trackers can assist you in getting this certification.
Location
Program educators are not assigned to a fixed worksite. You must be able to report to any assigned workplace location in Portland (SE, NE, W, N).
2024 Salary
All training is paid at minimum wage for locality training takes place. After training staff are established at the regular wage (below).
- Year 1 - Coordinator (Day) $819 per week
- Year 2+ - Coordinator (Day) $831 per week
- Year 1 - Coordinator (Overnight) $940 per week
- Year 2+ - Coordinator (Overnight) $1025 per week
- CDL Driving Bonus $80 additional per week
Time Commitments
This is a temporary seasonal position. You must be able to report to work every week in the summer season with the exception of the optional time-off.

Flexible Substitute Role
Can't commit to the entire summer? Choose Flexible Substitute on your application. If hired, you attend our Substitute training on May 11, 2024. As a Flexible Substitute, you'll have the opportunity to serve as a Guide Educator based on when, where, and how much you want to work based on available roles.
