Your Coast Expedition
Join us on an unforgettable adventure along Oregon’s wild coast. Explore sweeping beaches, misty forests, and rocky tidepools alive with sea stars and anemones. Dig clams at low tide, pull crab pots from the bay, and cook what you catch over a campfire. Learn about the tides, ecosystems, and wildlife that define our region. Each day brings new discoveries in coastal ecology, teamwork, and the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Clamming & Coastal Cooking: Time your dig with a minus tide and learn to identify clam species, from gaper to butter. Practice sustainable harvesting, observe shellfish biology firsthand, and transform your catch into hearty chowder around the campfire.
Crabbing on the Bay: Venture out onto the docks of the Oregon Coast to set and pull crab pots. Learn about crab species, size limits, and regulations. Practice safe handling and cooking techniques while exploring shellfish’s role in local communities.
Tidepooling & Marine Ecology: Explore the intertidal world where land meets sea. Observe anemones, sea stars, limpets, and chitons up close while learning how these creatures survive shifting tides and crashing waves.
Beaches, Towns & “Goonies” Vibes: From windswept dunes to local communities, experience Oregon’s coastal culture. Hunt for agates, explore historic piers, and visit landmarks that inspired legends. Between adventures, relax and enjoy the sunset.
Birds & Marine Wildlife: Bring binoculars and a field notebook as you learn to spot coastal wildlife. Watch for harbor seals and listen for the calls of sandpipers and loons. Learn tracking, observation, and wildlife identification skills.

Expedition Details
About the Expedition
This overnight program takes Trackers into the heart of Oregon’s coast for three days of adventure, teamwork, and outdoor living. We travel by bus, make camp near the beach, and spend our days foraging, crabbing, clamming, and exploring tidepools. Every site is part of a living classroom where students learn real expedition skills.
Locations
The expedition camps along Oregon’s North Coast—areas like Whalen Island, Netarts Bay, and Rockaway Beach. Each location offers hands-on experiences in foraging, marine ecology, and local history. Participants travel together by Trackers bus from our NE Portland headquarters.
Tents & Camping
Campers sleep in Trackers-provided all-weather tents and bring their own sleeping bag and pad. Camps are set up as teams, with shared cooking and cleanup responsibilities. Instructor tents are close by for supervision and support.
Meals
Meals are hearty, simple, and often cooked together. Campers learn to prepare meals over camp stoves or fires—including making chowder from clams they dig themselves. While we aim to be flexible, specialized diets can be challenging to accommodate in the field. For severe allergies, contact us to discuss options.
Gear & Preparation
We’ll provide a detailed gear list before the expedition. Campers should be ready for variable coastal weather—wind, rain, and sunshine often in the same day. Bring sturdy boots, rain gear, warm layers, and a sense of adventure!
Overnight Age Requirements
Overnight youth programs are designed for participants 17 or younger for the full length of the camp or program, regardless of grade level.
